The University of Sheffield’s peregrine webcam cam be found at for 2015 – We are happy to announce that there are now TWO webcams, showing two different angles on the nestbox. This will show a lot more action as the adults prospect and prepare the nest-site before egglaying, as well as a different view during the breeding season.

Please note the webcam is not run by the SBSG, and we cannot answer any technical queries about it.

  1. I have just seen the sitting bird devouring one of the hatched egg-shells – at 19.30 today 5 May. Is this usual behaviour?

    1. Eggshells contain a good source of calcium, and it may make sense for the birds to eat them. However birds destroy empty eggshells as to not give clues of the presence of chicks to predators, and it’s possible the birds are simply breaking them down rather than actually devouring them.

    1. Not that anyone’s noticed – are you sure it didn’t just have its nictitating membrane (third eyelid) closed?

  2. I just want to say thank you for this marvellous webcam – its a joy to watch and a too easy distraction from work!

  3. can i just say that it has been a joy to watch these peregrines grow from eggs to fledglings i hope that all 3 manage to fly.

  4. great news for the city ,red kites on rother vally last week ..just gutted that i just found out about the site, i be there next year to get a look at my all time top bird brilliant news.

  5. My husband and I wish to thank you for the many hours we have spent watching the chicks grow and then leave the nest, it has been fascinating !

  6. I’ve really enjoyed watching the peregrines I will miss them when they’ve gone , when I put webcam on now I feel so sad it’s empty, but happy it all went well.

  7. I just could not leave your site before suggesting that I really enjoyed the
usual information an individual provide for your visitors?
Is gonna be back incessantly in order to investigate
    cross-check new posts

  8. Went to last night lecture which was excellent and enjoyed the preceding display that the Peregrines put on for us. Can anybody tell me when and where the video of last night’s lecture will be located? Thanks.

    1. It’s currently being editing (by me!) and will be available to all on the University’s iTunesU site in due course. I’ll make sure it’s announced on here/Facebook/etc when ready. 🙂
